What if my order didn’t come out how I intended?
If you’re not pleased with how your order came out, we want to fix it! If you receive your order during the first pickup, follow these instructions to return your order to us. If you receive your order during the second pickup, you are welcome to follow these return instructions but we cannot guarantee you will receive the fixed product prior to resident move-in.
if your order can be fixed (ex: needs to be cut):
Head to the A.S. Ticket Office windows and on the orange wall you should see a small dropbox that says “Lecture Note Drop Off” (see photo below). Drop your order in this box before Tuesday (9/14) at 8am and send us an accompanying email to let us know the requested edits (email: publications@as.ucsb.edu). These orders will then be included with the Tuesday afternoon pickup where an R&CL staff member will come pick up all orders and distribute them. We will send you an email if it’s available for pickup any earlier.
If your order will require a reprint (EX: mistakenly printed double-sided):
Send an email to publications@as.ucsb.edu describing the issue as best you can. If the error was a mistake made on our end, we’re happy to run reprints for free. However, if we printed correctly based on instructions given then we will need to recharge for the order.
note about dimensions:
As specified in the RA presentation, we are unfortunately unable to honor exact dimensions when printing multiple door decs/files per page due to the sheer volume of orders during move-in season. We will print based on your specifications (1-up, 2-up, 4-up, etc.) and try to get it as close to your requested dimensions as possible.
A Common Mistake: If you received your order and it wasn’t cut out, it’s likely that we either missed the instructions or the order didn’t have instructions to cut. We can easily cut off white borders if you send the order back. Keep in mind cutting does incur an extra charge which you can inquire about on our pricing page.

What’s an “original”?
Originals are the # of different files you have, so for door decs it may be between 50-100. For welcome letters it may be just 1 or 2.
Keep in mind that the number of originals is different from the page count: you can have 1 original and make 100 copies, and similarly you can have 100 originals and make 1 copy of each which would both yield 100 prints.

What’s 2-up and 4-up?
In short, 2-up is 2 originals or copies per page and 4-up is 2 originals or copies per page. We typically print door decs 2-up to save you money as well as be more efficient and sustainable.

Remember, we offer this formatting complimentary! All you need to do is send us the files and ask.

What if I want to create 2-ups and 4-ups myself?
You’re more than welcome to format your files as 2-ups and 4-ups when you send them to us–we just try to make it easy on you by doing it on our end! If you do send them pre-formatted, just be sure to specify how you want them cut (i.e. cut to bleed, half pages, quarter pages, etc.)

What’s the difference between an original and the quantity/set?
Quantity/Sets are the number of times you want us to print the originals.
For example, if you have 85 residents and thus 85 door decs and want just 1 copy of each door dec, you would put 1 here for Quantity/Sets and 85 for originals.

What’s the difference in paper types?
For color printing we offer our standard paper as well as matte and glossy cardstocks. Glossy cardstock is more similar to photo paper but doesn’t always handle large amounts of color well. Glossy cardstock also has a $0.10 surcharge (no surcharge for matte). For door decs, we strongly recommend matte cardstock. We cannot use color ink on colored paper.
For black & white printing we offer our standard 100% recycled white paper as well as white a variety of other colors of paper. We have all corresponding colors in matte cardstock as well.
